Best Food In KL
Best place to eat in KL
1. CHOW KOAY TIEW - Jalan Imbi : the corner restaurant which is on the same row with Sakura, and opposite of Honda Kah Motor.
2. WANTAN MEE/KARI MEE - End of old Subang airport road, in the Subang New Village Town Centre.
3. TAPIOCA NOODLES& VEGETABLES - Old Klang Road : a shack which is nestled behind a chinese primary school, after the market and the post office (which would be on your left).
4. KARI MEE (LEMAK) - SS1, PJ : Alisan Restaurant (2nd shop from corner), facing the Lorenzo Furniture Shop.
5. ROAST DUCK RICE - Seapark : Sunrise Coffee Shop
6. PRAWN MEE/KARIMEE/CHEE CHEONG FUN - Seapark : Coffee Shop near old Paramount Theatre.
7. PAN MEE - Along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman behind Kah Motors.
8. HOKKIEN MEE - Petaling Street opposite Hong Leong Bank
9. CHAR SIEW RICE - Jalan Tung Shin
10. NASI KANDAR - Kayu Nasi Kandar Restaurant in Taipan, Subang with a branch in SS2 a coffee shop formerly known as Cheow Yang
11. Teh Tarik & roti - Taman Desa next to the water tank
12. If money is not an issue - Madam Kwan (Nasi Lemak & curry fish head)
13. Little Penang (chow Koay Tiew & Prawn mee)
14. Bak kut teh - Jalan Imbi behind hong leong bank
15. Satay - Naan Corner in Ampang, in between International School and RSPCA, called Nur Satay.
16. Banana Leaf - Kannas in SS2, behind Lisa De Inn hotel.
17. Nasi Lemak - Suzi corner, next to Ampang city (used to be called Kerris)
18. Won Ton Mien/Char Siew - Jln Sungai Besi; on the way to PLUS. Only open at 7pm-2am, a car repair shop by day.
19. Beef Brisket noodles - Tengkat Tong Shin; runs parallel to Jalan Alor. Stall near the beginning of the road. Open at night till late.
20. Char Siew/Chicken rice - Tengkat Tong Shin; further up the road. Old prewar shop house. This has to be the drop dead unhealthiest piece of anything you can insert in your mouth in KL? but to die for. Chicken is strictly as filler to make sure you don't get a heart attack overdosing on char siew.
21. Fish balls - Tengkat Tong Shin; a little further up the road from char siew. Stall inside a coffee shop. This guy is good, look at the amount of people he employs to helpout!
22. Hokkien mee (KL style - thick, black, yummy (sounds kinky) Petaling Street; at the intersection opposite Hong Leong Bank. Full of porcine goodness. Still the gold standard of Hokkien mee.
23. Seafood noodles - Segambut; near Auto Bavaria. A big bowl full of noodles and assorted mussels, prawns, cuttlefish, fish etc. for reasonable price. Pick of soup, clear, tom yam, curry. Forget the rest, or for the curry. Soya bean with cincau not bad. Avoid on Sunday mornings. You will wait for an hour. Fried Chicken Rice (only on Weds and Sat)!! There is a branch now open in SS2 Chow Yang, called Restoran Yu Ai with yellow sign board, just a few doors away from Kayu Nasi Kandar.
24. Ploughman's Lunch ? Finnegan's Seri Hartamas. A big plate filled with a pot of pate, slices of ham, pickle, onion, chunks of cheese, a slab of butter, 4 hunks of bread. If you are EXTREMELY hungry, this one's for you.
25. Chef's salad - Flagz; behind Souled Out. This salad is as all salads should be - crunchy FRESH veggies, and the dressing is to diefor. Easily the best salad in town. And I don't even like salad. Beer is the ! freshest in town too, great bite.
26. Hokkien Mee (Penang style otherwise known as Prawn noodles) Champ's; Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Baru. Standard gone down somewhat recently, but still head and shoulders above all others in KL. You'll have to go to Penang to beat this.
27. Char Kway Teow Bukit Damansara; behind Hock Lee supermarket, next to Shell. Corner stall inside coffee shop. Best in KL. The fellow has been frying for longer than I can recall, and he is so good that you may have to wait up to 45 minutes during lunch time. Doesn't use too much oil almost perfect. As above, you'll have to go to Penang to beat this. Other stalls in the same shop not bad.
28. Chicken rice Jalan Gasing; very close to the Federal Highway, same row as Southern Bank 2 shops one in the middle, one in the corner. Can't decide which is superior, but both are very good. Middle one has Ipoh taugeh.
29. Bak Kut Teh Klang, just about anywhere. Hokkien Association off the main highway leading to the heart of Klang is a good place to start for beginners.
30. Dim Sum ? Marriott Hotel. Chinese restaurant here serves northern China style dim sum. Easily best dim sum in town. A little pricey.
31. Fish head off Jalan Sungai Besi; just past Won Ton Mien, turn left right after BP. Three shops clumped together. All look dilapidated but don't worry. Don't know what type of fish they get their heads from, but I suspect fresh water fish. Hot sauce fish head to die for. Extremely reasonable prices.
32. Bak Kut Teh Segambut; go past Auto Bavaria, follow road all the way until you see a Chinese temple on your left. Enter the temple courtyard and you will see a tin shack where they serve bak kut teh. Not quite up there with Klang, but nothing to sneeze at... Go for yam rice rather than white rice. Fried Chicken Rice (only on Weds and Sat)!!
33. Nasi Kandar/Kerabu/Laut Taman Tun; the other end of Secret Recipe in a store on the same block, usually with a van outside. Truly Kelantanese style. Only in the morning though...
34. Seafood ? Pulau Carey; get to Jalan Banting and follow signs to Pulau Carey. Place called Kang Guan, just before the actual bridge onto the island. Cheap!
35. Nasi Lemak TangLin at Lake Gardens, near the Clinic/Hospital. Only open when government depts open.
39. Chicken rice - Bing Restaurant in Sri Rampai. Wait till you drop to eat the chicken rice. Worth it.
Restoran King Crab- Jalan Mewah PJ
Vegetables Wrapped with Fishmeat. The actual name of this dish escapes us. Each lump consisted of fishmeat on the outer layer holding in some hard vegetables I suspect were chopped carrots and stuff.
The address:-
Bak Kut Teh- Jalan Ipoh
BAK KUT TEH @ RESTORAN SEM KIM, JALAN IPOH, K.L.
After a night out, we headed to Jalan Ipoh for Bak Kut Teh (mixed pork parts in herbal soup). The proprietor is Hokkien, and friendly and obliging - probably a slow night.
The Bak Kut Teh is really great. It's light on the herbs, so it lets the 'parts' do the talking. It's the soup that makes this dish great. Oh, the U-PuĂ® (oil rice) that accompanies it is fragrant. The side order of liver soup with red wine is like what I cook at home (minus white wine). A great night out that capped my trip.
Hung Kee- Jalan Loke Yew Wanton Noodles
I pass by this shop everyday when i go to work, when the sun is young and about to rise up to the sky. This place has been here since ages ago, i suspect way before i was born so to speak. Located in one of the most mentioned road on the traffic report on radio from 7am to 9am, it is Jalan Loke Yew.
So what about Hung Kee? Notoriously known to serve cut throat prices of wanton mee so is Meng Kee char siew and Pudu siew yoke. The fact remains that if the food is good, no matter how much i charge you, my fan base will still be there. Better still, the owner makes even more money and we, foodies are also happy as they are here to stay..
On a rainy Saturday afternoon, we finally decided we were sick of venturing into another eating outlet situated in a shopping centre. We wanted something old school, something like Char siew in Tengkat Tong Shin but thats too near Sungai Wang, or Pudu Siew Yoke, wasnt sure if it was open on Saturdays, so before another option arise, i turned in and we reached outside Hung Kee, a very ancient looking shop that is famed for their springy wanton noodles..
Overall, a very old school place for some wanton mee.. Best best would be a nice plate of plain wanton mee with some of their roast meats ala char siew and maybe roast chicken or duck.. Their prawn dumplings are also very worth trying.. All that for only RM30plus (USD 10).. As this is a place that is older then me, despite its faults, it gains a reputable 7.5 out of 10.. if not how did it survive for so long?
Address:
28-5 and 28-6, Jalan Loke Yew
Pudu, Kuala Lumpur
Mei Sin @ Jalan Imbi
As you all know..Jalan Imbi is a small food haven..one corner we have Soo Kei that serves fantastic Sang Har Mee and Beef Kuey Teow..on the other corner sits Sun Foong Bak Kut Teh..then theres another corner..that sits a humble chinese kopi tiam..Mei Sin in mandarin and Mei Sum in cantonese..so what do they serve? For one..they actually serve decent "no skimming on quantity" drinks..and they do a damn fine roti bakar with butter and kaya..
There are various stalls and the highlights are basically the ipoh hor fun which is highlighted below and the pork noodle with all your spare parts..which i might highlight another time when my parents tapau for me especially on Saturday mornings..

7 wonders of Malaysia
Actually they could just make thing simpler, as the "new 7 wonders" are just before our eyes. If the 7 wonders to be chosen from Malaysia, it should have less controversies than the online voting.
1. Tropical Water Village: After a great thunderstorm in the afternoon, Kuala Lumpur will be "immersed" in water.
At that moment, Kuala Lumpur will become like Venice. Tourists can see inverted reflection of KLCC Twin Towers and KL Tower in the water. It is wavy and swaying.
We can suggest to the Ministry of Tourism of the boat services. The ministry can recruit fishing boats and hundreds of boatman from all over Malaysia.
Starting from KLCC Twin Towers, the boatman who is wearing Songkok and Sari will be singing while bringing his passengers to the Golden Triangle of Bukit Bintang and finally stops at Merdeka Square.
If the tourists are not yet satisfied, they can go to the underground parking of Merdeka Square. It is the world's first underground swimming and snorkeling pool. Cars immersed in the water can be used for treasure hunt.
2. The Wonder of Mice and Human : Gurney Drive of Penang is full of mice and human, but they do not interfere each others. Instead, they appreciate one another and it can become a role model for ecology.
While the tourists are enjoying Penang cuisine in Gurney Drive, hundreds of mice are rushing between their feet. They are eating with their mouths, and at the same time their feet are moving up and down, playing hide-and-seek with mice. They are staying happily together.
In addition, we can propose to Tourism Penang that they should encourage the food stalls to obtain materials from local sources and produce "mice grand feast"!
It could be "rats with three ways of eating": firstly grill the rat skin, and later braise the meat. The rest of the parts could be used to cook rat soup. The second menu is rats potpourri: mince rat meat and stir-fry it with five spices. Thirdly they can make "rats sushi": choose bigger rats, and then stabbed it into thin slides after its skin was peeled. Mix the thin slides with Wasabi and best served while fresh.
3. The Lost of Ma Zu: Kudat in Sabah is searching for the mysterious Ma Zu.
Kudat is located at the northeast of Borneo. Initially there is a Ma Zu statue, but it was later went missing and only the base was left over. Is Ma Zu "flew" to overseas already?
This miracle is comparable to the Apollo statue which keep watch Aegean Sea more than 2,000 years ago. The history of Apollo statue is only available in annals record, and we can no longer see its statue. For centuries, visitors go to the Rhodes Island at the Aegean Sea, but they simply couldn't see the statue.
Even though Kudat's Ma Zu statue is missing, but it can act like the Apollo statue at Rhodes Island, welcoming the tourists. Then they can travel together and search for Ma Zu statue.
4. Thrilled Johor Bahru: It provides an unprecedented horror experience.
Theme parks are famous in the worldwide. However, most of the theme parks are fake and they tend to be formalised. It is difficult to provide true feeling to the tourists.
In this Johor Bahru theme park, the most famous game is snatching. When a tourist is walking on the street, a snatch thief will switch on his motorcycle engine. A self-experienced game which tests your wisdom and courage starts now!
If the tourist successfully catches the snatch thief, with the assistance of other people, he can attack the thief with Wushu freely. Sometimes, the thief could be assaulted until dying.
Not only for justice, but playing Wushu can as well give vent to long-suppressed emotions. It is so refreshing!
However, this theme park is very adventurous. In most cases, tourists have to pay for heavy price. It is the matter of life and death, not wealth.
Well, let's look at Spanish Bull Runs which attracts many tourists annually. The tourists are enjoying themselves in this dangerous game. It seems that Johor Bahru screaming theme park would succeed.
5. Crowd at Shore : Experiencing the ultimate human endurance, and the strong will in fighting for a better future.
Every morning when the sky is still dark, there are thousands of students and those who needs to put food on table, are waiting at the narrow gateway for their better future.
It is a grand view to see more than ten thousands people moving together. When you go closer, you will discover that many of them are weak children walking slowly with a heavy schoolbag and a heavy hand bag.
6. Haze: Seasonal event each year- the hazy sight.
This event is already well-known internationally, and need not to be introduced again.
7. Water World in Parliament Building: Malaysia Parliament building has two major characteristics: First characteristic is water leakage while the second is saliva.
Seven wonders are all available in Malaysia. It is quite surprisingly that the government has failed to notice them, and didn't include them as tourism major events. It's too bad! (Tay Tian Yan/ Sin Chew Daily)
